Chelsea are preparing to make an improved offer for Everton defender John Stones amid speculation that he has asked to leave Goodison Park.
According to the Metro,
The Guardian suggest that the Blues plan to act upon Stones’ desire to leave, and increase their offer by £6m.
However, the Metro suggest that their new bid could be even larger, and make Stones the most expensive English defender of all-time (via Telegraph). Jose Mourinho appears not to want a protracted transfer saga as the new Premier League draws nearer, so is willing to make a £34m offer for the former Barnsley trainee.
The Toffees value the youngster at £36m (via Metro), but it is difficult to imagine that they will be able to stand in his way should Stones wish to go, and Chelsea make the latter bid, which would only just come up short of the Merseyside outfit’s valuation.
The fact that Mourinho is willing to put the centre-back under the pressure of being the most expensive English defender of all-time, especially at such a young age, highlights how highly the Portuguese thinks of his target.
