Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has apparently rejected the offer of even more money to stay at the club, but will still stay at Stamford Bridge until 2019 anyway, the Daily
The Portuguese tactician enjoyed a successful second season at the club during 2014/15 – masterminding their first Premier League title in five years and topping it off with the Capital One Cup.
And though has has agreed on the terms on a new four-year deal, The Sun are claiming that he has shunned the extra cash to remain on his present £8.5m (£165,000-a-week) salary.
Last season Mourinho had hinted that he didn’t need more money to be convinced to stay at the club, saying: “I don’t need a contract, I don’t need a pay rise.
“I stay as long as Mr Abramovich wants me!”
The only alteration to his deal will see him stay in the Chelsea hot seat for a further two years until 2019.
The Express apparently spoke to a source close to the Special One, who said:
“It has been an easy deal to do.
“Jose said he’s happy on the same money as before so we’re just extending the contract by two years. Everyone’s delighted.”
Mourinho will have his work cut out for him in his defence of Chelsea’s league title this term, as the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are all reported to be embarking on heavy rebuilding projects.
