Liverpool confirm £32.5m signing of Christian Benteke from Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke has officially completed his £32.5m move to Liverpool after completing a medical, the Daily Express reports.

The Express reports that the 24-year-old has signed a five-year deal and becomes the club’s second most expensive signing behind the £35m Andy Carroll (via BBC).

The Express states that the Belgian international will now likely make his debut against Finnish side HJK Helsinki on August 1.

After meeting Villa’s release clause, Benteke becomes Brendan Rodgers’ seventh signing of the summer, and was joined at the club’s Melwood training base by fellow new boy Roberto Firmino, who touched down on Merseyside following an extended break due to his involvement in the Copa America (via Daily Mirror).

Benteke’s arrival could likely now spell the end of the line for Mario Balotelli, who was left out of Liverpool’s pre-season tour to Australia and the Far East (via the Express) after a difficult season last term that saw him bag just one solitary goal in the league.

And he may be joined though the exit door by veteran England international Rickie Lambert, who has been the subject of a £3m bid from West Bromwich Albion (via Daily Mail).
