Liverpool still keen on Christian Benteke move but £32m is still too much

Liverpool are planning on using the bulk of the money they have received for Raheem Sterling by planning a move for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, the Daily Mirror reports.

However, Villa are still refusing to budge on the striker’s buyout fee, and won’t settle for a penny less than the £32m clause the Mirror claims is written into his contract.

The Reds have this week received a reported £49m for England international Raheem Sterling (via Daily Mail) but still feel as though the fee Villa want for the Belgian is too high.

But Brendan Rodgers has made the 24-year-old striker his number one target of the summer, and though Villa are expecting an imminent bid for his services, they are prepared to fight to keep him at the club.

The Mirror also report that Benteke’s arrival could expedite Rickie Lambert’s switch to West Bromwich Albion, but the 33-year-old will be going nowhere until Rodgers can be certain that he will land Benteke.
