Liverpool could be set to emerge as a potential rival to Premier League rivals Manchester United in their hopes of signing Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller, according to the Daily
Muller has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford recently, though Bayern are hopeful of keeping him at the club, with Chief Executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge even stating that the World Cup winner is not for sale (via Express).
“Thomas is unsellable,” he said. “I have a feeling that he’ll never leave Bayern Munich.”
However, the Metro reported on Wednesday that should he become available then Liverpool, as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid, would be waiting in the wings to beat United to his signature.
One stumbling block in Liverpool’s hopes, though, is the cost. The Metro claims that manager Brendan Rodgers may not be able to afford the 25-year-old, meaning it would take a special effort in order to bring him to Anfield.
United would already seem to have the upper hand as manager Louis van Gaal knows the player from his own time in charge of the Bavarian giants.
