Louis van Gaal issues cryptic response to speculation linking Cristiano Ronaldo with Man United return

Louis van Gaal has failed to quash rumours linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a return to Manchester United after issuing a very cryptic response to questioning regarding the Portuguese star.

According to the Daily Star, the Dutchman remained very vague when asked about a possible deal.

“Ronaldo to United? I never answer the question because I cannot answer the question. I want to,” he said.

The Star report that the Premier League side are interested in bringing the 30-year-old back to Old Trafford this summer, six years after they let him leave for Real Madrid, and may be willing to break the British transfer record to get him. The Metro suggested last month that the Red Devils would be willing to pay £66.5m for Ronaldo, eclipsing the £59.7m United paid for Angel Di Maria last summer (via Independent).

And the player may well be open to returning to the Premier League. The Telegraph report that he has already fallen out with Los Blancos’ new boss Rafael Benitez, so may decide that he needs a change of scene should the tension between the two men continue.
