Manchester United could end their interest in Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin as Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger closes in on a move to Old Trafford, according to the Daily
The Germany international is on the verge of joining Louis van Gaal’s men (via Bild) and will sign a three-year deal at some point in the coming days.
The Express claim that United have broken their rule of not signing players over 30 because of the World Cup winner’s vast experience and evergreen ability.
Van Gaal is a long time admirer of Schweinsteiger, and is keen to bring in cover for the 34-year-old Michael Carrick, she endured an injury hit campaign last season. The pair have previously worked together during the Dutchman’s time in charge of Bayern between 2009-11.
But Schweinsteiger’s arrival will likely mean United will end their interest in Schneiderlin, having already seen a £20m bid for the Frenchman rejected (via the Daily Mail).
