Man United decide NOT to sign Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi

Despite Sergio Ramos reportedly deciding that he wants to stay with Real Madrid (via Daily Star), it appears that Louis van Gaal has ended his interest in another of his key defensive targets.

According to the Daily Express, the Red Devils are no longer keen on bringing Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi to Old Trafford this summer.

The 27-year-old had been the La Liga side’s best player last season, helping the club finish fourth in the top flight. Their league position means that they will enter the Champions League at the play-off stage, the same round that van Gaal’s men will begin their campaign.

However, despite United deciding not to pursue the Argentina international, he may still be playing in England during the upcoming season.

The Express report that Manchester City have also shown an interest in signing Otamendi. The news that their rivals have pulled out of the race may be enough for them to force through a move, and give the centre-back the chance to show United that they should not have let him move elsewhere.
