Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a £21.5m move for Benfica attacker Nicolas Gaitan, according to the Metro.
But, the 27-year-old is confident that he will be replacing his countryman at Old Trafford this summer, the Metro report, which would suggest that he has been kept in the loop as Di Maria’s Ligue 1 switch progresses, and feels that it will be confirmed imminently.
The Benfica man is comfortable playing on either wing, whether that be as part of a front three, or in a slightly deeper position. His versatility will allow Louis van Gaal to switch his formation to either play with more attacking impetus, or to shut up shop with minimal fuss.
However, Gaitan moves into an incredibly competitive midfield, as the Dutchman already has a large cluster of players to choose from. That competition was perhaps one of the reasons that the man he is replacing struggled in the north-west, and van Gaal will be keep to ensure that it does not happen to his potential new signing.
