Man United goalkeeper REJECTS chance to leave Old Trafford

The German stalwart was the first to be unveiled this afternoon, with the club’s official website reporting that he had signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford.

As United fans were digesting the news, they were then hit by the announcement that the former Southampton man had signed a four-year contract, with an option of a further year (via the official website).

While the side have yet to confirm a fee for either player, the Daily Mail previously suggested that Schweinsteiger’s move would cost the club £15m, while the Frenchman’s move saw the Saints pocket in excess of £25m (via BBC Sport).

Both players paid tribute to their former sides, but admitted that the lure of playing at Old Trafford was too tempting to ignore (via the official website).

“Manchester United is the only club that I would have left Munich for. I feel ready for this new and exciting challenge in what I regard as the most competitive league in the world,” Schweinsteiger explained.

“Once I learned that United were interested in signing me, it was a very easy decision to make,” Schneiderlin added.

On reflecting upon the signing of Schneiderlin, Louis van Gaal admitted he was pleased to get the deals done before they depart for their pre-season tour of America (via the official website), while he also claimed he was delighted to be linking up with Schweinsteiger again, having worked with the player when he was in charge of the Bundesliga side.

“I am very pleased that we have been able to complete this deal before the tour to the United States. That training camp will be very important in our preparations for the new season and gives Morgan and the other players a chance to show our fans what they can achieve together,” he said.

“Bastian is, of course, no stranger to me. I worked with him during my time at Bayern Munich and I am truly delighted he is joining Manchester United. His record speaks for itself,” he added.

The pair follow Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian, who also joined the club during this window.
