With Memphis Depay already signed, the Metro report that Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian are closing in on moves to Old Trafford. And they could be joined by the Argentinian winger.

The Daily Star report that the 27-year-old has a £25m release clause in his contract, and while Louis van Gaal is not quite willing to meet that valuation, he is hoping to make an offer that tempts the Portuguese champions.

The Star suggest that the Red Devils will bid £21.5m and will allow either Rafael or Javier Hernandez to move in the opposite direction.

Hernandez has been told that he’s free to leave, but a broken collarbone may prevent any bids for the time-being, which would suggest that United have decided to be proactive in their attempts to offload the Mexican.

The Star add that Atletico Madrid are also keen on Gaitain. Diego Simeone’s side are looking to replace Arda Turan, who recently left for Barcelona.
