Manchester United three in, three out: Atletico man agrees deal, while strike duo hea for exit

Here is a look at what is doing the rounds on the Manchester United rumour mill, starting with three players possibly due to arrive at Old Trafford:

Three in:

Arda Turan – From Atletico Madrid

Reports in Spain are suggesting that Atletico Madrid have agreed a fee with Manchester United for Arda Turan, that could be in the region of £29m, according to the Daily Express. The attacking midfielder has been attracting the attention of some of Europe’s best clubs, and the Express suggest the player himself is keen for a move to Premier League champions Chelsea. Nevertheless, it is Louis van Gaal that has reportedly won the chase.

He is an attacking midfielder so may be able to play the role that Wayne Rooney was often used in last season. The England captain frequently sat deeper than the forwards so he could have a bigger influence upon the game. With Turan’s passing ability, he could sit behind the strikers, and allow Rooney to return to the forward line.

Lucas Biglia – From Lazio

The Lazio holding midfielder has reportedly been made available, according to the Daily Express, but only for £35.5m. However, the Express also report that the Serie A side have also put an offer of a new contract on the table in their attempts to persuade him to stay.

He would provide the inexperienced back four with plenty of cover, but at 29, it seems like a massive gamble for Louis van Gaal to meet his asking price based on how long he may have at the highest level. The signing could also be dependent on whether United get their other targets. The Daily Mirror report the club are also pursuing Morgan Schneiderlin – who is younger – and Bastian Schweinsteiger – who could cost a lot less – so Biglia may only be third choice.

Seamus Coleman – From Everton

The 26-year-old has surged right to the top of van Gaal’s full-back wishlist, after missing out on Nathaniel Clyne and Dani Alves, the Daily Star report. The Star report that Jonny Evans may be used as bait to tempt the Toffees into accepting an offer for the Republic of Ireland international.

The right-back area was arguably the most problematic position last season. Midfielders Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young were often used in the role, and that sometimes proved their downfall. Coleman has been one of the most consistent, yet exciting full-backs in the division in recent years, and would be a good candidate to solve their problems.
