Robin van Persie
Former Netherlands forward Pierre van Hooijdonk has claimed that Manchester United have secretly been trying to get the 31-year-old off their books, the Daily Mirror report. Van Hooijdonk added that his former club Fenerbahce have been contacted by the Premier League side about a move.
The Dutchman’s fall from grace at Old Trafford has been quite alarming. Having been the man that sealed the title in his first year, injuries have prevented him kicking on and putting any kind of run of form together. The difficulty to hold down a place in the side has culminated in United’s apparent attempts to sell their one-time talisman.
According to ESPN, the Dutch forward could be joined at the Turkish club next year by Nani, who is set for a medical this Sunday. ESPN report that United want around £4.25m for the winger, who spent last season on loan at Sporting Lisbon.
Having spent last year away from the club, the Portuguese has failed to make any kind of impression on Louis van Gaal. Although he has been capable of some excellent performances during his time in England, inconsistency has been his main problem.
Although he recently broke a collarbone, there is queue of admirers keen on signing the Mexican forward. The Daily Star suggest that MLS side Orlando City have spoken to the player’s representatives about a move. However, the Star suggest that they will have to battle it out with Liverpool, West Ham, Wolfsburg, Lazio, and AC Milan, who are also all keen on the 27-year-old.
Like van Persie, he enjoyed a promising first season at Old Trafford, but has gradually fallen out of favour. And like Nani, he was banished by van Gaal during the Dutchman’s first season. While he did well at Real Madrid while on loan, he obviously has not done enough to convince his manager to give him a chance.
