Manchester United are hoping that they may be able to tempt Everton into selling Seamus Coleman, by offering Jonny Evans as part of the deal.
According to the Daily Star, the 26-year-old has become Louis van Gaal’s prime target to solve their problems at right-back, having already missed out on Dani Alves and Nathaniel Clyne.
However, Coleman has become a pivotal member of Roberto Martinez’s side, so it would not be a surprise should the Toffees do everything in their power to keep hold of the Republic of Ireland international.
United are willing to let Evans head to Goodison Park if it would make the deal happen. The Star report that the 27-year-old has just one year left to run on his contract, and despite many of his rivals for a place in the defence being offered new deals, an extension for Evans does not appear to be forthcoming.
The possibility of securing a new central defender may tempt Martinez into negotiating a deal. Having lost Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz, the boss has just Phil Jaglieka and John Stones to pick from to play in the heart of the back four.
