The England international has been out of action since April, meaning he missed out on the club’s FA Cup success, and will now also sit out of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.

The Mirror is reporting that Welbeck has aggravated the injury by somehow managing to bruise the bone, which has flared his problems up again.

But though he doesn’t have a concrete date on when he will be available for selection again, it is thought that he is hopeful of being back in time for the club’s participation in the annual Emirates Cup at the end of the month.

He is yet to begin pre-season training after initially hoping to make a return before the end of the previous campaign, but has instead had to deal with a summer of disappointment.
