Here is Wednesday’s news and gossip concerning Liverpool:
The Reds are still confident that a deal can be done for the 24-year-old.
Liverpool’s chances of completing a deal for Inter Milan’s Mateo Kovacic have been dashed, after the midfielder confirmed that he wants to stay at San Siro, ESPN report.
The 21-year-old only signed a new contract in January, and revealed that he intends to ignore interest from other clubs.
“I’m not moving anywhere. This is what I was looking for, and renewing my contract until 2019 says it all. My relationship with Inter is going to be a long one,” he explained.
It also appears that they’re set to miss out on Barcelona winger Pedro, after the Daily Express suggested that he was closing in on a move to Chelsea.
The Premier League champions have triggered the 27-year-old’s £22m release clause.
They may have some luck in trying to lure Fiorentina forward Mario Gomez to Anfield, after the Daily Express reported that the Serie A side were considering a swap deal involving Mario Balotelli.
Both players have struggled at their respective club, leading to speculation that both could be on the move this summer.
Finally, the Merseyside outfit have revealed that new signing Roberto Firmino will wear the number 11 shirt, the Daily Mirror report.
Nathaniel Clyne will wear the number two, while Joe Gomez has been given 12.
