Roma close in on €2m loan of Chelsea’s Mohamed Salah with €20m obligation to buy

Italian giants Roma are said to be closing in on deal that would see them pay €2m to land Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah on a season-long loan with a €20m obligation to buy him outright next summer, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The 23-year-old has struggled to settle in at Stamford Bridge since making the move from Swiss giants FC Basel in 2014. He spent a successful second half the season on loan with Serie A side Fiorentina, and as such has since been linked with a return to Italy this summer.

And now, according to Di Marzio, a deal between Chelsea and Rome is said to be close. Initially he would link up with Rudi Garcia’s men on a season long loan, which would cost Roma €2m before joining the club permanently next summer for €20m.

Considering Chelsea paid Basel just £11m for his services (via the BBC) they would be recouping a profit on a player that has featured only 19 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Di Marzio claims Fiorentina were keen to bring him back for another spell at the club, while Inter Milan were displaying their own interest, but it is believed that Salah is more interested in going somewhere that can offer him Champions League football.

And he seemed to confirm that he would be on the move earlier on Thursday morning when he took to Twitter to say:
