Roma target Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny for loan deal

Italian giants Roma have reportedly opened talks with Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny about the possibility of joining them on a season long loan, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Following the arrival of Petr Cech earlier this month, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had been hoping that both Szczesny and David Ospina would stay put in order to create a three-way battle for a starting spot this season.

However, Colombian international Ospina had been tipped to make a swift exit just 12 months after arriving at the club (via Daily Mirror), however, it is now thought that Szczesny is the player most actively seeking a summer move away (via ESPN).

And it is thought that one of the clubs showing the most interest in the Pole’s signature is Roma, who want to bring him to the club on a season-long loan. The deal could then turn into a permanent switch next year, bringing an end to his turbulent ten-year association with the Gunners.

Wenger has consistently backed Szczesny to develop into a world class goalkeeper, but he lost his place to Ospina in the second half of last season and it now looks as though he has come to the end of his time in North London.
