West Brom forward Saido Berahino has reportedly split with his agent, Aidy Ward, after becoming frustrated by the way he handled the transfer situation regarding Raheem Sterling.
According to the Daily Mail, the 21-year-old is no longer working with the controversial agent, with his part in Sterling’s desire to leave Liverpool supposedly the reason for their split.
Ward has seemingly become the scapegoat for the situation regarding the England man following his comments towards the back end of last season (via the Mail). He claimed that his client would not signing a new deal at Anfield, even if he was offered £900,000 a week, after the winger was accused of following the option which offered the most money (via BBC Sport).
However, the Liverpool Echo now suggest that his motivation for leaving is his relationship with Brendan Rodgers, rather than the financial gains of switching to Manchester City, who appear to be the favourites to sign him.
Should that, and rumours that Rodgers offered him as lucrative a contract as he could want (via Sky Sports), be true, then perhaps it would be fair to say that Sterling has received an unnecessarily tough time of things. The Daily Mirror report that he has received a shocking amount of abuse after his phone number was leaked.
Meanwhile, Ward has thrown his client under the bus, and left a stigma to be attached to one of the most promising English players to have come through in recent years.
Luckily, another prospect has come to his senses before any damage can be done.
