With Angel Di Maria closing in on his Manchester United exit (via BBC
Here are ten potential options who could fill the void that Di Maria leaves behind, including some members of the current squad, some that have been linked with a possible summer move, and some that should really be on United’s radar.
The £25m signing (via Telegraph) seems the most likely candidate to replace the former Real Madrid man. He completed his move to Old Trafford following a sensational year in the Netherlands where he managed 22 goals in 30 Eredivisie games, helping PSV Eindhoven to the title.
He is a much more selfish player than the Paris Saint-Germain bound midfielder, having managed half the top flight assists that Di Maria managed last season. However, he justifies his self-centred style by regularly putting the ball in the back of the net.
Although he was previously discarded as a flop – just like Di Maria – Young has rebuilt his reputation with the Red Devils, and now has the right to be considered as a key part of Louis van Gaal’s plans. He was often deployed as either a full-back or wing-back last season, but may find that he is used in a much more natural position during the upcoming campaign. His crossing was particularly impressive last year, and asked a lot of questions of defenders.
And while he may not be the superstar name that Di Maria is, he can’t do much worse than his soon-to-be former teammate.
