It’s been a good year for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez. First he established himself as one of the most exciting talents in world football at last summer’s World Cup, then he lifted the FA Cup during his first season in English football and on Saturday night he rounded off the hat trick by firing in the penalty to win the Copa America on home soil.
Taking on the favourites Argentina, the game ended goalless after 120 minutes of regular and extra time, sending the game to a tense finale in a penalty shootout.
And already 3-1 up from the spot, the Arsenal star looked nervous as he stepped up, but dispatched his kick to hand victory to the hosts in a 4-1 scoreline.
Cool as you like, he delivered a Panenka like spot kick to spark off scenes of will celebration, capping off a fine 12 months for Chile, who are well on their way to becoming a true football superpower.
