Arsenal could beat Man United to long-time target Julian Draxler for just £21m

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a late cut-price move for Schalke star Julian Draxler right under the nose of Premier League rival Manchester United, the Daily Express reports.

Both clubs have been tracking the 21-year-old for some time now, though they faced some serious competition from both Wolfsburg and Juventus earlier in the summer.

The Express is now reporting that the World Cup winner could be available for as little as £21m, with Italian publication Tuttosport claiming that Arsenal are plotting an 11th hour swoop for his signature.

Arsene Wenger admitted on Friday that though he wasn’t close to bringing in any new faces his back room team are working around the clock to acquire a target before Tuesday’s 6pm deadline.

“I am always confident that a last minute situation or solution is available, because the transfer market is especially moving in the last four or five days,” he said.

“But at the moment I cannot promise you that.

“We work very hard, you know I have a team around me who work day and night to find good solutions but at the moment we are not close to signing anyone.”
