Arsenal set to beat Manchester United to signing of 15-year-old goalkeeper

Arsenal have reportedly beaten Manchester United to the signing of Benfica goalkeeper prospect Joao Virginia, according to the Metro.

The Metro suggest that the 15-year-old had a trial at Old Trafford earlier in the year, and was believed to be close to sealing a move to the Red Devils before Arsene Wenger swooped in, and managed to agree terms with the Portuguese side.

The youngster is set to sign a four-year deal with the Gunners.

While it is likely to be at least a few years before supporters get to see the stopper in the first-team, the move is likely to excite fans, especially given the business the Emirates outfit have already done so far this summer.

Petr Cech’s arrival from Chelsea means that Virginia will have the chance to work with one of the very best the Premier League has seen. If he is able to deliver on the potential the north London side believe he has, this could prove to be a very important deal for the club.
