Besiktas reportedly approach Mesut Ozil about possible Arsenal exit

Besiktas are reportedly keen to pull off what would be the most stunning move of the summer, after it was claimed that they had spoken to Mesut Ozil’s representatives about an Arsenal exit, according to the Metro.

The Metro report that Erol Kaynar – who was previously on the Turkish side’s board – has claimed that the club’s head of transfers Erdal Torunogullari met with the German international’s agent.

“Erdal met with Mesut Ozil’s representatives last week and made an enquiry,” he stated.

The 26-year-old’s contract runs out in 2018 (via Metro), and he remains one of the most gifted players in the world, meaning that even if Arsene Wenger was prepared to sell, Besiktas would surely have to part with an almost incomprehensible amount of money to sign him.

And while the Gunners have enjoyed a very mixed start to the season – with their victory in the Community Shield being followed up by a humbling defeat to West Ham, and then, a much more confident performance against Crystal Palace – there seems little attraction for a player of Ozil’s calibre to make the switch to the much less competitive Turkish top flight.

While this move would no doubt shock everyone, we just cannot imagine why the World Cup winner would switch the Emirates for Besiktas.
