Champions League draw: Man United take on Club Brugge in qualifying round

Manchester United have been handed a potentially difficult draw against Belgian outfit Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifying draw, the BBC reports.

The Belgian giants finished their 2014/15 domestic campaign as Jupiler League champions, while United have qualified through the ‘league route’ (via UEFA.com)

The two sides will square off for a place in the Champions League group stages, with the first leg taking place at Old Trafford on 18-19 August, and the second leg match in Belgium on 25-26 August.

Elsewhere, Scottish champions Celtic will travel to Sweden to meet Malmo, whilst there are interesting meetings between Lazio and Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting CP and CSKA Moscow, with the pick of the ties coming in the form of Valencia vs Monaco.

Though the draw has been kinder to United than some, it will still be a potential banana skin for Louis van Gaal’s men.

United were missing from last season’s competition, so they will be desperate to get off to a good start against the Belgians in order to give their fans something to cheer about and alleviate some of the early pressure they will be under.
