Chelsea make €65m bid for Atletico Madrid playmaker

Chelsea have reportedly had a huge €65m offer for Atletico Madrid playmaker Koke rejected by the Spanish giants, according to the Metro.

Spanish news outlet Marca state that Blues boss Jose Mourinho has been on the 23-year-old’s trail for some time, and has secretly been hopeful of bringing him on board despite seeing their offer turned down.

Koke has been one of the key figures in Diego Simeone’s revolution at the Vicente Calderon in recent years, but that has not stopped him from being consistently linked with an exit from the club.

The report in Marca claims that both Chelsea and German giants Bayern Munich have met the player’s enormous €65m release clause, but the player was convinced to reject their advances in order to stay put with his boyhood club.

Koke made his breakthrough to the Atletico side back in 2009/10, and has since gone on to make 211 appearances, scoring 18 goals in the process.
