Chelsea send officials out to Italy to tie up deal for 19-year-old midfielder

Chelsea will reportedly send officials off to Italy to complete a deal to sign Cagliari midfielder Godfred Donsah, according to the Metro.

Despite the Sardinian side’s struggles last season – which ultimately ended in their relegation to Serie B – Donsah was a real positive of the campaign and established himself as one of the most promising players coming through in the Italian game currently. He scored twice and bagged one assist in 21 top flight appearances for the side.

Excitement about his potential has seen interest from north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, as well as from Serie A champions and Champions League finalists Juventus, the Metro report.

But Jose Mourinho is desperate to seal the Ghanaian’s signature, and plans to send representatives from the Stamford Bridge side out to get a move done.

The Metro report that Cagliari are looking for around £10m for the youngster.

While he is unlikely to be breaking into the first-team anytime soon, the opportunity to play under Jose Mourinho and work with some of the best players in the game could well give him the best chance to deliver on his potential.
