Daniel Sturridge hands Liverpool fitness boost as striker will return sooner than expected

Liverpool have enjoyed a strong start to the season with a maximum six points from their opening two games, and will now be handed a further boost with the news that striker Daniel Sturridge is making excellent progress in his recovery from injury, the Daily Mirror reports.

The England international missed the bulk of last season through a series of injuries, but underwent surgery in the United States in May to help solve the his problems.

It had initially been feared that the 25-year-old would be forced to sit out until November, but his recovery from his hip operation is going so well that he could be in line to return much sooner.

Sturridge is said to still be in the States, but will be given the go ahead to return to training in the coming weeks.

The former Manchester City and Chelsea striker hasn’t played since the FA Cup win at Blackburn in April.
