(Image) David Beckham wears new Man United shirt with iconic number 7

Manchester United have become used to some special players wearing the number seven shirt down the years, but there are arguably few as famous as David Beckham.

The right-midfielder took the shirt that had previously been worn by Bryan Robson, George Best, and most recently Eric Cantona when the Frenchman prematurely ended his playing career in 1997.

And while Cristiano Ronaldo was the next to take the famous shirt following the former England captain’s departure in 2003, it was Beckham that seemed to make the number on the back of the shirt into a brand.

Even though he left Old Trafford twelve years ago, he clearly remains deeply attached to the Red Devils, having posted a picture of himself wearing their brand new home shirt, with the famous name and number on the back.

And while the nostalgia may tempt some United fans into getting the same printed on their own kits, the Independent report that supporters will not be able to get the names: Beckham, Cantona, or Ronaldo printed with the number seven at the club’s megastore due to image right issues.

Nevertheless, this photo will remind fans of what a great player Beckham was when he took to the Old Trafford pitch.
