Jose Mourinho compares Pedro to Diego Maradona following Chelsea debut

In the wake of Chelsea’s hard-fought victory over West Brom, Jose Mourinho reserved special praise for new signing Pedro, and compared him to one of the greatest footballers the game has ever seen, the Daily Express report.

“He wasn’t quite Maradona but he was close,” he said.

The former Barcelona man was surprisingly thrown straight into the starting line-up just days after completing his £21m move (via Express), and vindicated the decision by opening the scoring during the first-half, before setting up Diego Costa for the Blues’ second.

While the 28-year-old had little time to prepare with his new teammates for the clash at the Hawthorns, Mourinho suggested that he was not surprised by the Spaniard’s impact.

“I expected him to perform like that because he had a good pre-season, and he played three competitive matches,” he added.

Having endured a difficult start to the campaign, the Blues were crying out for someone of real quality to arrive to ensure that their title-winning side did not stand still while their rivals strengthened.

The boost that came from Pedro’s surprise arrival allowed the Stamford Bridge outfit to put their bad start behind them, and his performance against Tony Pulis’ men may just give them the confidence that another title win may not be beyond them.
