TalkSPORT journalist Ian Abrahams has claimed that while Arsenal have given up on trying to bring Karim Benzema to the Emirates this summer, the Gunners are in talks about a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani.
In a series of tweets, Abrahams suggested that Arsene Wenger’s quest to bring the Frenchman to the Premier League is over after it became apparent that he would not be leaving Real Madrid. That has prompted the side to pursue Cavani, and it now appears that a deal could well be done, although it is still a long way off.
Ok so here is my @Arsenal gossip. The big striker the Gunners are in for is Edinson Cavani, Benzema is not leaving Real Madrid
In further exciting news to long-suffering Arsenal fans, Abrahams hinted that the club were also keeping a very keen eye on Cavani’s teammate Adrien Rabiot, but would stress that the pair may be two of several targets being monitored as the window draws to a close.
I was also told the Gunners are looking to sign a second player from @PSG_English & that is @Adriien_Rabiiot again no deal has yet been done
While the 20-year-old got sent off during Laurent Blanc’s side’s opening match of the season, he could definitely be classed as one of the most promising centre-midfielders in Europe currently, who would seemingly fit perfectly into Arsenal’s system as one of the two holding players that sit behind the creative three working off the striker.
And while Gunners supporters may be disappointed that it looks like their chances of signing Benzema are done, they will be delighted if they manage to bring the Uruguayan to England.
