Karim Benzema could well be joining Arsenal this summer, but only if he lets Real Madrid know that he wants to leave by handing in a transfer request, according to Spanish football expert Graham Hunter, the Metro
Arsene Wenger has made signing the French striker his number one priority this summer, the Metro report, but Hunter believes that the 27-year-old needs to make it known that he wants to make a Premier League switch.
“It is a doable deal, but it won’t happen unless Benzema says to Real Madrid: ‘I want to go to Arsenal’,” he claimed.
Should the Gunners make the kind of bid that matches Benzema’s valuation, Hunter thinks that Los Blancos will have no choice but to accept the offer (via Metro).
“Arsenal have the money and Real Madrid need the money – they’re €500m in debt,” he insisted
Hunter explained that he expects Rafael Benitez to play 4-2-3-1 at the Bernabeu (via Metro), meaning that he may deem the former Lyon man as surplus as requirements should he decide to use Cristiano Ronaldo in the role, and feel confident enough to have youngster Jese as his back-up.
And should the La Liga side’s financial situation be as worrying as Hunter claims, they may be more than happy to let Benzema move to the Emirates this summer.
