Liverpool are hoping to dive in ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Dynamo Kiev forward Andriy Yarmolenko, according to the Daily
Arsene Wenger called the Ukraine international to try and sell a move to the Emirates, the Express report, but the 25-year-old reportedly responded by informing the Gunners boss that he dreamed of playing for Barcelona. The Catalan giants are one of the clubs chasing his signature, along with Borussia Dortmund, and the Reds’ Merseyside rivals Everton (via Express).
However, Brendan Rodgers is hoping that by triggering his £14.5m release clause, he can get a deal across the line before Tuesday’s deadline (via Express).
And while Yarmolenko has previously told Arsenal that he wished to move to the Nou Camp, the transfer ban currently in place at Barca would prevent the attacker playing for the club until January, which may tempt him to move elsewhere.
Rodgers’ men could do with a boost after they were humbled at home by West Ham at the weekend, and signing Yarmolenko – seemingly from right under Arsenal’s nose – would provide that lift that would help banish the painful memories of the defeat inflicted by Slaven Bilic’s men.
