Man United and Arsenal could miss out as Fernando Llorente sets sights on next club

Manchester United and Arsenal could be about to be very disappointed, after the Daily Express reported that Fernando Llorente is closing in on a return to former club Athletic Bilbao.

The 30-year-old is free to leave Juventus this summer (via Daily Express), two years after he completed his move from the La Liga side. However, things have not quite worked out in Italy for the World Cup winner.

Llorente has scored 23 goals in 65 games for the Old Lady, but failed to hold down a regular place in Massimiliano Allegri’s side. The arrivals of Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala seemed to confirm that Llorente’s future lay elsewhere.

The Express report that Arsene Wenger had had an interest in bringing the Spaniard to the Emirates before he completed his switch to Serie A, while Louis van Gaal’s search for some more attacking depth had seen the Red Devils linked with a potential move.

Should Llorente complete a move back to the Basque side, the Premier League pair may consider this a missed opportunity. While United managed a win on the opening day of the season, neither club managed to put the ball in the back of the net themselves, and the lack of options up front is a concern that surely needs to be rectified if either is to win the title.
