Manchester United have included goalkeeper David de Gea in their Champions League squad for the upcoming campaign, thus jeopardising his potential move to Real Madrid, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
United are known to be desperate to hold onto the Spanish international, despite him now being in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.
Manager Louis van Gaal left De Gea out of the match day squad to face Spurs at the weekend, instead preferring to go with new signing Sergio Romero.
The Red Devils are set to meet with Belgian outfit Club Brugge in the qualifying round of the Champions League later this month, but have until Monday to sign another player to register for the tournament.
With that in mind, van Gaal has named his strongest possible squad for the encounter, but should be play, De Gea would be ineligible for Champions League games with Real.
United’s full squad is as follows…
David De Gea, Anders Lindegaard, Sergio Romero, Sam Johnstone; Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Paddy McNair, Matteo Darmian, Tyler Blackett; Adnan Januzaj, Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Ashley Young, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira; Memphis Depay, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, James Wilson.
