Man United to make big Gareth Bale gambit by offering £65m plus David de Gea

Manchester United are reportedly set to offer Real Madrid £65m plus goalkeeper David de Gea in a final attempt to land winger Gareth Bale, according to the Daily Express.

United boss Louis van Gaal is aware that he has yet to bring in a true marquee signing yet this summer and is hoping to add one to his squad before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The Express have highlighted that the Red Devils have been linked with big moves for the likes of Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller and Barcelona megastar Neymar in recent weeks, but a report in the Daily Star claim that Bale is now their number one target.

United are now said to be willing to use De Gea as bait to land the Wales international, with an anonymous source quoted by the Star claiming: “This would be the perfect deal for the club.

“It would cost them a lot of money but Gareth Bale is one of the world’s biggest stars, while goalkeeper De Gea has made it clear he wants to leave.

“It would suit all parties but there is not much time left and deals like these tend to take weeks because of everything involved.

“But United remain determined to bring in a big, big name before the window closes.”
