Manchester United are happy to let Javier Hernandez leave for Tottenham this summer, but have told their Premier League rivals that they want Harry Kane in return, according to the Daily
The Express report that although the Mexican is being allowed to move on during this window – with West Ham and Serie A side Torino also keen – Louis van Gaal wants to ensure that he has a replacement as Hernandez’s departure would leave just Wayne Rooney as the one senior option up front.
Following the Spurs man’s stunning campaign last year, the Express suggest that he has become the Dutchman’s number one target in that area of the pitch, and thus, he is hoping to use Mauricio Pochettino’s interest in Hernandez to engineer some kind of swap deal.
Given the impact that the 22-year-old made last season, it seems likely that the north London side will want a large amount of cash as well as the United man, especially as Pochettino, like van Gaal, has few options to call upon currently.
If Kane was to leave, the club would have just Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor, who have both struggled to make the kind of impact in front of goal that they would have liked.
Looking at what United currently have available, Tottenham probably know how desperate van Gaal is to add a striker of Kane’s calibre, and thus, can ensure that if they are going to sell their key man, they receive an amount – as well as Hernandez – that reflects the Red Devils’ desperation.
