Manchester United offer player-plus-cash deal for Chelsea target John Stones

Manchester United are looking to sneak in ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Everton defender John Stones, according to the Metro.

The Toffees are reportedly interested in United defender Jonny Evans, and Louis van Gaal is hoping to use that interest to broker a deal involving the two players, the Metro report. The Red Devils will also offer some cash to make the offer more attractive to Roberto Martinez (via Metro).

The offer is likely to alert Jose Mourinho, who seems desperate to bring the 21-year-old to Stamford Bridge during this window. According to the Metro, the Blues have already made two bids for the former Barnsley man, but appear to be less than keen to pay the £30m that Martinez suggests Stones is worth.

However, hearing that one of their potential rivals in the Premier League title race are making an offer to land one of their main targets may see the Portuguese change his mind, and decide that it is worth paying £30m, especially as they currently have very few defensive options.
