Manchester United go into the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie with Club Brugge knowing that while they carry a two-goal advantage, their lead is still precarious given the Belgian side’s away goal in the opening clash at Old Trafford.
Here is how we expect Louis van Gaal’s side to line up for Wednesday’s game:
GK-
With David de Gea being left at home (via Manchester Evening News), van Gaal has just Romero and Sam Johnstone to choose from. Given that the tie is not done and dusted, it should be the Argentinian who keeps his place.
RB- Matteo Darmian
The Italian has been an ever-present thus far, and is forming an excellent understanding with the rest of the back four.
CB- Chris Smalling
If the Red Devils are to protect their lead, Smalling has to be included. He is establishing himself as a leader, so will be keen to ensure they make no mistakes in Belgium.
CB- Daley Blind
The Dutchman has been excellent at centre-back and is developing a great partnership with Smalling. He brings a calmness on the ball that United’s back four have lacked in the last couple of years.
LB- Luke Shaw
Shaw is enjoying a great season so far, so complacency against a resilient opposition may be his biggest weakness. If he manages to maintain concentration, he is set for another good performance.
