Morgan Schneiderlin is hoping that he can build upon his promising start to his Manchester United career, and become a Red Devils hero just like Roy Keane, according to the Daily
While the former Southampton man admitted that he is a different character to United’s former captain, he suggested that he hoped to be as important a player as Keane was (via Mirror).
“He has a different personality from me. I speak less on the pitch,” he said.
“But I hope to have the same impact as him on the team. His battles with Patrick Vieira, when United and Arsenal were in competition, were memorable,” Schneiderlin added.
The former Republic of Ireland international was part of seven Premier League title-winning campaigns, the last four of which came when he was wearing the armband. And as Schneiderlin mentioned, Keane’s duels with long-time rival Vieira provided many of the league’s defining moments since its inception in 1992.
While Schneiderlin’s more reserved personality makes it very difficult to imagine that he will engage in such an incredible rivalry, his contributions for Louis van Gaal’s side suggest that he may be able to enjoy a long and successful career at Old Trafford.
His presence has helped the previously leaky back four avoid conceding a single goal in any of their first three Premier League games. There is still a long way to go however, before he is revered quite as much as Keane.
