Despite already signing Aleksandar Mitrovic, it appears that Steve McClaren is still keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.
According to the Metro,
Tottenham had appeared to be the England under-21 star’s most likely destination, after the Metro suggested that Mauricio Pochettino wanted to pair Berahino with Harry Kane at White Hart Lane. However, Spurs pulled out of the race to sign the 21-year-old after the Baggies requested £20m for his signature.
But, the Metro suggest that that has not put off the St James’ Park outfit.
The signings of Mitrovic and Georginio Wijnaldum, as well as the possible acquisition of Berahino would suggest that the club are desperate to ensure that they do not need to wait until the final day of the season before they guarantee their top flight status, as they were forced to during the last campaign.
