The 23-year-old’s international agent Pini Zahavi was in attendance – and sat just a couple of rows in front of goalkeeper David de Gea – as the Red Devils could only manage a goalless draw with winless Newcastle United (via The Sun).
And Zahavi confirmed that Louis van Gaal was keen on Neymar, but insisted that it was unlikely that his client would leave the Nou Camp at this point.
“It would be astonishing if United pulled off such a coup, but they are making a play for him,” he said.
While the move will surely excite United supporters, there may be some questioning why they are going after a player that seems so settled as one member of the best front three in world football currently. With the deadline approaching, United’s time may be better spent going after much more attainable targets.
However, if the club want to return to being considered as one of the very best clubs in the world, this is certainly the kind of deal that they would be looking to pull off.
