Alexis Sanchez forced to delay Arsenal return over visa problems

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has seen his return to the club for pre-season training delayed as he was forced to spend Monday night in Paris as he waited for his new visa to be processed, the Daily Express reports.

The Chilean international had been enjoying an extended break following his exploits at the Copa America in his homeland, where he helped crown Chile as South American champions.

He had been due to report back to Arsenal this week, though he was expected to miss next week’s curtain raiser against West Ham anyway, but took to Instagram to show that he was in fact still in the French capital.

“He will be back on August 3 and it usually takes three weeks to be competitive,” Wenger had initially said.

“He will miss certainly the first game of the season but with Alexis, it takes a little bit less.”

Posing with his brother and a close friend in front of the Eiffel Tower, the 26-year-old will now be expected to link up with his club mates again on Wednesday.

A report in the London Evening Standard claims that his extended stay in the French capital id down to him picking up a new visa and that the club are fully aware of his absence.
