Real Madrid having ‘second thoughts’ on signing Man United’s David de Gea

Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly having second thoughts about whether to continue their interest in Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea this summer, according to a report in AS.com.

The report states that United boss Louis van Gaal will not listen to any offers for the stopper, despite having doubts about his match readiness for this season’s opener against Tottenham this weekend (via Daily Star).

But the real stubbornness is said to be coming from United’s directors, who feel that selling one of the their best players – as they did with the likes of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo – it would display a sign of weakness that they don’t intend to show.

Real also aren’t keen on meeting United’s €45m valuation, and have insisted that they will only pay €25m for his services.

Usually when Real make a marquee signing they jettison some of the fringe players from their squad, something that they haven’t done this summer other than allowing veteran stopper Iker Casillas join Porto.
