Real Madrid to rival Liverpool for signature of Spanish starlet Dani Ceballos

Liverpool will have to beat off competition from Real Madrid if they want to sign Real Betis starlet Dani Ceballos, according to the Daily Express.

The Express report that the Reds were preparing to make an £8.5m bid for the 19-year-old, who, despite a lack of appearances for their second team, became a prominent part of the side that clinched promotion back to La Liga, having won the second division title.

However, Los Blancos are now in the running for the centre-midfielder, who is also attracting some interest from Arsenal, the Express report.

And while a move to Anfield may be more appealing if he is thinking about which move would offer more first-team football, the Express report that both reported bids involve the player remaining with his current club for this season.

That may give the Spain under-21 international the confidence that if he does well in the top flight with Betis, Rafa Benitez may seriously consider him as one of the possible options for a place in the side upon his return.
