Roman Abramovic sanctions Chelsea move for Antoine Griezmann

Chelsea could be set to make a move for Atletico Madrid winger Antoine Griezmann before the transfer window closes as the Metro reports that Roman Abramovic has given a bid the green light.

The Metro claim that Chelsea have been long time admirers of the France international, but have frequently been put off making an official approach due to Atletico’s insistence that he is not for sale.

However, that may no longer matter as the Daily Star is hinting that not only will The Blues make another offer for Everton defender John Stones, but will lodge a £21m opening bid for Griezmann in an attempt to change their alarming early season form.

But Chelsea may be running into a brick wall, as the Metro report that the release clause in Griezmann’s contract has recently been boosted to £56.8m, meaning it will be unlikely that Atletico will be willing to sell for anything less than that.

Griezmann enjoyed a prolific debut season at the Vicente Calderon last term, bagging a total of 25 goals in 54 appearances across all competitions. If The Blues are serious about bringing him to Stamford Bridge, they could be convinced to meet his buyout clause as they would be getting an electrically exciting player than knows how to find the back of the net.
