The deal, which would have worked out at £9.8m a year, still would have been a massive coup for the Red Devils, who are in need of more defensive reinforcements before the end of the transfer window on September 1.
Ramos had intimated that he would be prepared to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer to join up with United after he grew disillusioned with the terms he was being offered to stay where he was (via Metro).
The report also states that United were hoping to use Real’s apparent interest in goalkeeper David de Gea as leverage to bring the experienced defender to the Premier League.
And it has now come to light that a massive contract had already been agreed between the player and the club before he changed his mind to stay put.

Cadena COPE broke the news, but the Metro end by suggesting that Ramos will receive around £8m per annum in his new five-year deal to stay in Spain.
