According to the Daily Mail last month, the Blues had an enquiry for the 21-year-old turned down by the Ligue 1 side, but it appears that that has not deterred them in their pursuit as they have now made the two bids for the Brazil international.
However, Laurent Blanc’s side have remained resolute and have knocked back both offers for their youngster, who can also play on the right-hand side of the back four.
While the two acquisitions they have already made on deadline day are likely to take up the role as squad players, Marquinhos would have certainly been a contender for a regular starting spot in Mourinho’s side.
With two of the stalwarts of last season – John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic – struggling for form so far in this campaign, the former Roma man would be able to slot into either position should the boss decide that he needs to replace either of the veteran duo.
