Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confessed that he spent over the odds to sign Monaco forward Anthony Martial so that he would be around to play for his successor…Ryan Giggs.
In a guest evening by United’s executive club members both the Dutchman and his number 2 took to the stage to field questions about transfers, formations and what the future of the Red Devils holds.
The arrival of Martial for £36m certainly raised eyebrows, considering how the 19-year-old only made his senior debut earlier in the season and became the world’s most expensive teenager just a few short months later.
However, the Dutchman feels that the price tag will be justified as Martial will become a star of the game in the future.
But what’s more than that, is that Van Gaal appears to have already named Ryan Giggs as his successor, who will take over when his contract at Old Trafford eventually expires.
