Louis van Gaal claims Man United WILL NOT win Premier League title this season

After just four games of the new Premier League season, Louis van Gaal has bizarrely ruled Manchester United out of the title race, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Dutchman was speaking at a fan event when he claimed that he expects the Red Devils to finish second or third in the top flight, but assured supporters that they are planning to go after all three cup competitions (via MEN).

The MEN highlight that should van Gaal’s predictions be correct, he will have just one year to take the side back to the summit of the English game, having already decided to call it a day in 2017.

While United have made a mixed start to the new campaign, van Gaal’s revelations seem very bizarre, especially as potential title rivals Chelsea and Arsenal have also made shaky starts.

His words could well be passed off as mind games to either motivate his players to prove him wrong, or to encourage some complacency in their opponents.

Nevertheless, the fans are likely to be hugely disappointed by van Gaal’s claims, especially given the money that they have spent in the summer, for example, Anthony Martial’s move to Old Trafford may end up costing the club £58m (via Daily Express).

With that kind of money being spent, it would not be unreasonable to expect the club to make a considerable improvement on last year’s fourth place finish. Sadly for United supporters, van Gaal has already quashed those aspirations.
